Diagnostic Tools

These programs provide some diagnostic and repair functions for cases when your program will not start. They do not require installation on your computer. Just download to any folder and double click the file to run it. They are modified from time to time. Download a fresh copy to be sure you have the latest enhancements.

Application Diagnostic Tool

Instructions

  1.  Download the Application Diagnostic Tool (V.r 1.5, 30Kb) to your computer. Double click to start the program.
  2.  Pick your program name from the program selector.
  3.  Now select an Action to perform (listed below).

Action Descriptions

  • Test permissions  - Will see if your user id has necessary authority to perform configuration write operations. If you get a "Folder does not exist " message, try starting the program, then try this again.
  • Repair  - Repairs the installation by cleaning up possible corrupted configuration files. Try restarting the program after executing this action. Warning: You will lose any customized preferences. The program options and preferences will be reset to factory settings. Also, any program configurations such as favorites, personsas, etc. will be removed.
  • View program log  - View program log: Many errors may be written to the program error log when detected. This may give a clue to the problem. If you see errors reported in the log, save it to a file and email the file to Support. You MUST have a text editor program (ex. NotePad or other text editor) associtated to the TXT filetype for this action. See this page for how to associate a program to a file type. [ Vista], [XP]
  • Determine .Net Version Installed   - Will list all versions of .Net [1] installed on your computer. Useful for checking pre-requisites.

DirectX Prereq Tester Tool

This is one way to check your DirectX pre-requisite. If this program will not start, it is likely that you do not have DirectX version 9.0c on your system. Or the DirectX install may be corrupted. If you have the correct version, it will detect your sound devices and attempt to test them by initializing them for DirectX. Some devices may say "Initialized = false". This is normal for some devices that have an audio speaker but are not DirectX capable -- for example a dial-up modem card.

Instructions

  1.  Download the DirectX Prereq Tester Tool ( V.r 1.0, 70Kb) to your computer. Double click to start the program.
  2.  Click the "View DX Info" menu item.

Action Descriptions

  • View DX Info  - Will initialize and list your audio devices for DirectX. It will also list the date for the DirectSound dll (dsound.dll must be dated March 2008 or later).

Report any error messages to Support.

* Tip: Use Windows keyboard short cuts Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C to Copy message window text to the Windows clipboard.

[1] Special Note: .NET Framework 3.0 and 3.5 uses the same Common Language Runtime (CLR) as version 2.0. So in the Diagnostics tool, these versions will show as 2.0.xx

For example, version with 3.5 installed on our test machine reads as: .Net Framework 2.0.50727.1433
